Girls Get Busy

DAS VILLAIN thumbnail
DAS VILLAIN Before the "riot grrrl" came into existence, bands such as BRATMOBILE were making awesome and raw punk/indie rock. Their final album before their demise (they reformed/broke up multiple times before reforming in 2019 with an altered lineup) ended as they started: dismantling the patriarchy with impunity! I was fortunate to see Bratmobile live when I moved to the Seattle area in 1994! Their show was both energetic, political, and informative. Favorite track: Idiot Lover.

I can see what you're going to say to me If I don't explain it away I'm in the band And I deserve to be here and I do anyway Alright, alright Alright, alright We don't listen to what you say Girls get busy, not in the way Girls make music, we're here to stay Hey, hey, hey No, I'm not a tortured artist Torture you with one of my songs It's not market tested to impress you until you move on You can have anything you want Without a heart, you're always wrong Alright, alright Alright, alright We don't listen to what you say Girls get busy, not in the way Girls make music, we're here to stay Hey, hey, hey We don't need sophistication We just make the things we like Every reason to make music 9 to 5 don't make you right We'll be playing every night And I'll be punk for the rest of my life Alright, alright Alright, alright We don't listen to what you say Girls get busy, not in the way Girls make music, we're here to stay Hey, hey, hey Alright, hey
2.
You're not allowed to say a thing at all If you can't prove now what you're for But hey man, if I know one thing Well, I won't fight your fuckin' war This ain't our town No, this ain't our town This ain't our town Go tell them I lost friends in Texas So what's the meaning and what's the message? Don't mess with Texas Don't mess with Texas Don't mess with Texas The whole country's Texas This ain't our town No, this ain't our town This ain't our town Kids in America shop for America Kids in America shop for America Kids in America shop for America Well, I don't cater to Republicans Who say they're punk when they're just drunk And I don't cater to the other party Who makes amends with bodies in the trunk This ain't our town No, this ain't our town This ain't our town And the sun is going down This ain't our town No, this ain't our town This ain't our town Na na na na na na na na na Kids in America shop for America Kids in America shop for America Kids in America shop for America

You know it's just a piece of ass When girls are dying It's all hype and selling news When boys are lying Close your mouth and shut your face To keep from crying Ask if it's a girl thing, yeah ‘Cause girls are dying Yeah, another girl's gone missing Sure don't know what you're missing Grace the river or in the ground You never cared if she was found How many deaths does it take to make you Feel something too? Girls are dying while men are lying It's nothing to you You don't wanna hear about it Just something to do Run your mouth all over town Well, we don't need you Say she's getting too much press This time at the wrong address Even if her pockets’ lined Don't mean she deserved to die I can't believe it's true That dead girls are old news When bombs are falling And you quit calling Us girls have a right to know Us girls have a right to care When women die anywhere, anywhere You know it's just a piece of ass When girls are dying It's all hype and selling news When boys are lying Close your mouth and shut your face To keep from crying Ask if it's a girl thing, yeah ‘Cause girls are dying Yeah, another girl's gone missing Sure don't know what you're missing Grace the river or in the ground You never cared if she was found

Now you're calling me half-hearted But I can tell that you never cared Why should we meet? Why should we talk? I can already see what's not there Fuck you working both me and her Your cake and eat it, well, that's absurd And not so fast, it bites you in the ass 'Cause you ain't so cute, and you got no class I don't mean a money thing I mean anything, anything Oh, no, oh, no No, I don't like you, as you can see But, you know, all I want is an apology Alright, you done me wrong And you know all I can do is just sing this song Now you go with every redhead in town How dare you give me the run around Think I ain't got nothing better to do Than wait around for you, wait on you Waste not, want not, don't ask nothing What do you call your brand of nothing? I don't ask and you don't tell Don't ask, don't tell. Go to hell Oh, no, oh, no Now you're telling lies that I don't believe The things you say don't mean anything to me Alright, you done me wrong And you know all I can do is just sing this song What she don't know sure won't hurt her But I'll find a way to let her know Girls have a right to know something You know, you know, you know what I mean Easier than this loudmouth whore Well, I made you talk, but you made me snore Why don't you just take it easy? If I'm your noose, I cut you loose Oh, no, oh, no Now you say you changed, but I don't believe The things you say don't mean anything to me Alright, you done me wrong And you know all I can do is just sing this song I don't ask and you don't tell Now you're telling me Now you're telling me
5.
Why should I talk to you if you can't admit Things you did like talking shit Now I got something to say But I don't want you to take it that way Oh no, what do you think you get? Don't take it politically, no not yet I can say whatever I want I don't like you, no I don't I can do whatever I want, whenever I want Ain't that what you did? Don't you worry or flatter yourself You were never worth talking about Believe me I don't think much of you Or think of you, not so much This much that I know for sure I won't waste my mouth on your Personal political problem, it's yours Don't break it to me anymore You were right about one thing I don't like you, know what I mean I don't like you made sure of that And you can't take it back Now you tell me to let go You should let go of your lying Sudden case of amnesia Lasted seven years and counting Lost your memory to suit your needs What you did anyone can see Not that I care anymore Can't change me or change the score You were right about one thing I don't like you, know what I mean I can say whatever I want I don't like you, no I don't Now you tell me to let go You were young so long ago Now you tell me not to see What you hurt, well, that was me
6.
I can't take this anymore Never thought you'd walk out the door Cut your losses, you're going down Cut my losses, I cut you down Don't try, don't lie, don't cry, don't You know what I'll say to you You're so young and it's so new You don't know now what to do I don’t know, too, I don’t know Don't try, don't lie, don't cry, don't You said that I give you nothing But what do you offer me? I never ask you for nothing But just believe in me I think you've learned a lot from me Now what else can it be? I try to give you everything But this ride, it ain't free I don't want to make you cry I don't want to make you lie You can't make me feel something I can't make you feel it too Don't try, don't lie, don't cry, don't You don't know yet what you want You don't know now what you've got Baby, I'll just set you free Remember me, just remember Don't try, don't lie, don't cry, don't You said that I give you nothing But what do you offer me? I never asked you for nothing But just believe in me I think you've learned a lot from me Now what else can it be? I try to give you everything But this ride, it ain't free I don't want to make you cry
7.
Don't feel sorry for you in the suburbs I don't believe you were oppressed that way Life's too short to go cowering through it I don't believe in your moderate ways Cry all the time, but you're just boring Try to be normal, but what can you do? Give me a hand just to wash the other The mess you made is much bigger than you Baby, I don't hate men Just all the things they do Baby, I don't hate men Maybe I just hate you One, two… What's wrong? You Where did you get your sense of entitlement? Cower in my presence and feel my rage Don't promise much or show much promise I should've known you would turn out that way Don't try to be my friend or rival I’m dodging this bullet for the final time Ladies like me got to think about survival So many cowards and so little time Baby, I don't hate men Just all the things they do Baby, I don't hate men Maybe I just hate you One, two… What's wrong? You What do you mean against the feminine form? It's girls like you who are always torn Between self-hatred and one of the boy toys Give them what they want, but I want more Come on get together girls and do something 'Cause hating your body's just something to do Searching for friends, and I'm thirsting for something Starving for love and I'm hungry for you One, two… What's wrong? You Baby, what's wrong with you?

Idiot Lover 03:03
You thought you could use me and go away But you never gave me a clue I wanted to lose you and throw away Everything you say but don't do You lied to me about the way you feel I know what I saw, and I know what's real You said you couldn’t be yourself with me But you don't even know who you are You can run But you can't hide You were not a nice guy With words like sugar, you're not so sweet Don't bother me Just say you're sorry Stop calling me; don't cyber me; just say you're sorry Stop blaming me; quit calling me; just say you're sorry I don't want your charity Just save yourself Can't change history and everything To accommodate a laundry list Why should I be reading minds When you can't even say what you think Afraid of girls and afraid to protest Everything you said had to be a contest Threatened by a girl who can travel the world Because you can’t navigate a basement You can run But you can't hide You were not a nice guy With words like sugar, you're not so sweet Don't bother me Just say you're sorry Stop calling me; don't cyber me; just say you're sorry Stop blaming me; quit calling me; just say you're sorry I don't want your charity Just save yourself You laughed at me when I cried to you You couldn't spare me a cent Deserving none of your agony when When I couldn't even pay the rent I wasn't allowed to participate in Taking it over, now it's too late Tell me you still want to be friends But I don't even know who you are You can run But you can't hide You were not a nice guy With words like sugar, you're not so sweet Don't bother me Just say you're sorry Stop calling me; don't cyber me; just say you're sorry Stop blaming me; quit calling me; just say you're sorry I don't want your charity Just save yourself

Are you a lady? Are you a girl? Tell me who taught you how to behave Everything proper, talking in place Are you a lady? Are you a girl? Every time you're in the office You've got that 2D in a whirl You make us see you; you don't see me Because you see, I'm just a girl Are you a lady? Are you a girl? Can I blame you? Why can't I behave you See what all of this is for Are you a lady? Are you a girl? It's not all about Gloria Steinem Get your news between the lines We're not fighting in your system Wish you weren’t wasting time I’ll never forget the moment you discovered you were not a feminist Can you explain to me how a woman somehow becomes the enemy of women? Are you a lady? Are you a girl? Can I blame you, why can't I behave you See what all of this is for Are you a lady? Are you a girl? Giving all us girls a bad name You all look and fuck the same So what about People magazine Bought your 15 pounds of fame Are you a lady? Are you a girl? Where are you going? Where have you been? Are you a lady? Are you a girl? Are you a lady?

When every breath is for you Every mistake too I stay up late at night To think of ways to impress you I'm struggling to have impact On the scale of my dreams When you call me When you wake me up It's not over I'll just sit and listen to your record Let's fight in the bathroom And walk to some hotel In Paris in the summer But we survived it well What will it take for us to know? We will always rule together When you call me When you wake me up It's not over I'll just sit and listen to your records Send me everything Forever And I'll always Listen to your records
11.
I don’t know if I should say this I don’t want to wake the dead I don’t wanna hurt your feelings But we can’t believe what you said We’re too late, and you’re the greatest Don’t believe what you just read, what you said It ain’t right; it ain’t right What if I said it’s not like chicken What if I said there was no egg How many stars it takes to see us How many times you walk away We don’t know you anymore Still backstage but in the way, not today It ain’t right; it ain’t right; it ain’t right Sing for a dollar, sing for free Sing for your dollar, sing for me Why do you think they came before us What makes you think we don’t know Where we went and where you’re going With ideas we know you stole How can you call it “revolution” It’s the same old, oh oh oh oh
12.
I won’t go to your store I won’t work here no more Nothing left to lose On your 24-hour news Don’t wanna hear the sound Of cowboys all around I won’t go; I won’t go; I won’t go United we, united we, united we United we don’t We won’t fly your flag For the rights we never had We don’t buy your lies in disguise The Right side pushing down And it doesn’t make a sound You’re going down; you’re going down; you’re going down United we, united we, united we United we don’t You stole the work; you stole the land Now you want a helping hand Is it a game? Is it a test Wealthy nations will contest It’s not fair, and what for? Isn’t it all fair in war? Now what for? Now what for? Now what for? United we, united we, united we United we don’t You’ve been bought, you’ve been sold Don’t say that you weren’t told I saw you turn in one week Into a flag-waving freak Wave a flag, wave your flag That only shows you’ve been had You’ve been had, you’ve been told, you’ve been sold sold sold United we, united we, united we United we don’t
